Thunderstruck: Champion Bagpiper Ursa Beckford with Keyboardist Brian Stewart |
|
Friday, September 10th Bagpipes like you've never heard them! In this powerfully fun collaboration, traditional Celtic music mixes with exiting modern sounds - from blues to the Beatles to the flashiest ceilidh tunes. Ursa Beckford, 16, of Clifton, Maine, has been playing the pipes since age seven. He has reached an exceptional level of highland bagpipe playing, as a soloist and a pipe band member. In August of 2009 he performed in the prestigious MacGregor Memorial under twenty-two bagpipe contest in Oban, Scotland. At the age of 13 Ursa became a grade 1 piper, the highest amateur rank in piping, and within two months had taken a prize in a high level contest. That year he also joined the Oran Mor Pipe Band, one of three Grade 1 bands in the United States. He also performs traditional and contemporary music with keyboardist Brian Stewart. They’ve played pipe music, as well as blues and Beatle’s tunes. Call the hall for advance tickets or more information at 963-2569. Tickets are $15 for adults, $7 students, and children under 12 are admitted free. This concert, part of our "Emerging Artists" concert series, is also part of our commitment to hiring 100% Maine Artists in 2010. |
